Partnering closely with Idea Maker, the I Am Available team was able to coordinate and create features that aren’t available in other popular social media platform apps. This new app concept would allow people to connect and build relationships that might not otherwise be possible if the users didn’t know the other person was available.
The idea behind this concept was that someone could mark themselves as available with a geotag, and other users or friends could see that they were open to chat or hang out with them, despite the odd hours. Sometimes, you just need to hit an all-night diner for coffee and chat with a friend. Other times, you just need someone to text back and forth for a while you’re awake. Studies show that night-shift workers tend to struggle with mental health issues more because of the lack of social connection.
With the recent health situation of our country, reconnecting to people is a critical part of reclaiming our happiness. Creating this kind of app doesn’t just allow for meetups, but for video chats and phone calls that would be hard to coordinate without the assistance of this app. Normal people don’t answer phone calls at 4 am, but if you can check with your friend to make sure they are available, that call isn’t quite so rude.
Idea Maker designed a custom app for Android and iOS platforms to integrate the I Am Available concept in a practical and easy-to-learn program. Now users can set up pods and communities to communicate with when they’re available to chat, even when it’s not a “normal” time to be up.
The dashboard created in the app allows for individual customization and sorting of friends into groups or pods. You can choose to mark yourself as available to some people while remaining unavailable to others. The programming of the app is intuitive and easy to learn.
